Starting as a small Hamburg family company named Carl L. Grossmann, Grossmann & Berger has become one of Hamburg’s leading property service-providers in the years following its merger with Claus Berger in 1973 and the investment taken in the company by the Hamburger Sparkasse in 1994.

1933 Carl L. Grossmann formed an estate agency which concentrated on residential property in the Sachsenwald and Bergedorf suburbs of Hamburg. Over the following years he and his son and successor, Carl G. Grossmann, extended the company’s activities to cover the whole of the Greater Hamburg area and also to include commercial property.

1961 Claus Berger commenced his activities as an estate agent. He was active in construction sites, owner-occupied apartments, detached houses and rented houses until he started to concentrate on commercial property in 1970.

1973 Carl G. Grossmann and Claus Berger combined to form the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Hamburger Innenstadt. The first major project of this cooperation was the development of the Hanseviertel in central Hamburg

1994 onwards. Grossmann & Berger GmbH is an associated company of the Hamburger Sparkasse. Since then the company has enjoyed particular growth in the core areas of commercial leases, investment and residential property.

1998 The subsidiary GBG Hansegrund is formed.

2001 onwards. We are a member of PropertyPartners Immobiliennetzwerk Deutschland.

Since February 2003 we are a member of Colliers International through PropertyPartners Immobiliennetzwerk Deutschland. Colliers International is a network of legally independent property service-providers and, with over 250 offices in 51 countries across the world, forms one of the largest service-providers in the field of management, leasing and sales of commercial property. The aim of the companies organised in Colliers International is to provide expert local real estate advice wherever our clients need us. Therefore Colliers members are leading companies in their area who are also linked into a globally active network.
